Do you want to be able to compute information from slit lamp photography? Like the size of a pterygium or epithelial defect or ulcer for subsequent follow up? The exact angle of a rotated toric intraocular lens? How about the chord kappa and alpha?

Finally, be able to delineate a corneal lesion and input the coordinates of the boundary points in a dedicated excimer software to perform customized ablation area phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK). Many other clinical applications are available, your imagination and clinical sense are the limit.

Step-by-step tutorial

Simply snap a photo of any lesion using a smartphone hooked to a slit lamp, or from any slit lamp photography, upload it to the cloud using any popular service like one drive, Dropbox, icloud, and google drive, or transfer it through airdrop, then go to www.CornealAnalysis.com from any desktop computer and upload the photo.

Input the horizontal white to white measurement, and the central corneal power such ask SimK, normally taken from any tomographer or biometry.

Determine the actual white to white.

Locate the pupil (if you want its center to be the reference).

Measure the chord and angles of any point , both antickockwise and clockwise (measurements take into consideration the corneal curvature).

Measure the surface area of any lesion, like a pterygium, an epithelial defect, or ulcer, again with the output factoring in corneal curvature

For more advanced users, you can tinkle with the software and be creative:

You can determine angle kappa even from a autorefractometer image

You can, instead of the pupil, set the point of reference the center of the limbus, such as in chord alpha measurement

You can locate a point on the cornea in reference to the pupil, then pin the corneal vertex based on previous information from tomography, then save the image and reload it into the software and locate the point of interest as referenced to the vertex, or use this very point as the center of measurements. This is typically useful in PTK treatments or wavefront-guided/topography guided treatments with planned decentration.

HAZE

Haze is calculated by averaging pixel intensity values provided that they fall within a certain color range. Images are equalized for light intensity to minimize differences due to dissimilar lighting conditions.

For best results, use the same photography method to compare different haze cases. Abstain from calculating haze in eyes applied with fluorescein.

Make sure to correctly delineate the pupil with the white circle and the limbus with the blue circle for optimal calculations.
